Project A envisions a seamless collaboration between designers and AI, enhancing efficiency in cross-disciplinary projects. Designers upload their work to train AI models, enabling the AI to learn design elements like color and lines.

Project A is committed to building a future where technology and craftsmanship progress hand in hand. Guided by the principles of sustainable development, Project A algorithmizes the traditional design process, translating an artist's unique and abstract personal style into clusters in the digital world. This helps bridge the gap between the virtual world and physical products, creating design works that are filled with vibrant textures and rich experimental elements.

Jojo Yue Zhou is a pioneering digital and fiber artist who maintains a close collaboration with aolab. She has a passion for integrating technology and traditional handicrafts into the design of fashion and home art pieces. In Yue's vision, the texture of hand-knitted/woven fabrics can be translated into algorithms and programs, and the winding of materials can be expressed artistically through machine language. The sense of flexibility and uncertainty that can be created by knitting and weaving themselves becomes a predictable ordered path through the machine language of the industrial era, a subject Yue has long wanted to explore.

In practice, Yue used her past works—richly textured and colorful knitwear, along with futuristic computer-generated images—to train her AI model. Funi Ding, a minimalist product designer and product director at aolab, trained her AI model with her linear designs of tables and chairs. This collaboration occurs between Yue's and Funi's AI models.

They then refined the process by standardising output image specifications and clarity and distinguishing the roles of each model: Funi's AI provided product outlines and shapes, while Yue's AI added colour and texture. In this way, these two AI worked seamlessly and conducted hundreds of creations on three basic but representative home design items selected by Project A. This "unboxing" creation is based on the unique design language of the two designers from Project A. Among the massive designed images generated by their AI team, the two designers once again demonstrated their role as traditional design directors, combining aesthetic vision with professional knowledge, and selecting from the perspective of design production and material colour matching. The selected designs - a vase, a lamp and a chair - were eventually materialised through 3D printing technology. The chosen materials for this step are eco-friendly filaments PLA and PETG, which offer a wide variety of colour and texture choices for the designs.

PrODUCTS

Chair “H” collection

The first releases from the ”H" series of chairs have been selected in transparent tea-green and a two-tone patchwork, demonstrating the magical transformation of texture and feel that different materials can bring. The interplay of color, shape, and texture gives the chair a dynamic sense of rhythm, as if it were a visually symphonic composition rich in rhythm and melody, adding a unique artistic charm to the home space.

Vase “O” collection

The "O" series of vases fully display the fun and playability of material and color combinations. While retaining the wavy striped texture, consumers can customize their preferred panel colors and printing materials, adding a touch of whimsy to their living spaces.

Light “I” collection

The ”I" series of lamps adopt a rather unique transparent filament, yet still retain the straight-striped texture mimicking fabric. This distinctive choice allows the lamp to change colors according to the shifts in light, much like a living entity, full of endless change and allure. This design thoroughly explores the intrinsic characteristics of the material, and fully leverages the role of light, infusing the entire design with more vitality and spirit.
