The Celebration

Yue's mother, a merchant of festive decorations, was Yue's first muse, instilling in her a foundational aesthetic sensibility through the careful selection of merchandise and the artful orchestration of colour schemes.Yue’s mother instilled in her a deep love for traditional crafts. Unlike most traditional Chinese households, Christmas was the most festive time of the year for their family when she was growing up. After a busy season of exporting holiday products, Christmas became the time when her mother was finally free to celebrate and decorate. As a result, the golden and silver threads on Christmas ornaments became an inseparable part of Yue’s childhood memories.

The Celebration is crafted entirely from silver glass threads, drawing inspiration from the ancient Chinese practice of knot-tying as a form of record-keeping. The cascading knots, combined with the striking silver colour, evoke a sense of nostalgia and longing for her homeland and childhood memories.At the base of The Celebration is a sphere wrapped in silver threads, resembling a moon that has been gently pulled to the ground by the cascading knots. In ancient China, the moon often symbolized longing and remembrance. While the piece is named The Celebration, it subtly conveys a sense of nostalgia and yearning for home.
